Here’s the easiest way for you to start a podcast, today

Regardless of your tech experience or speaking experience, you can follow this guide to start from idea to execution in less than an hour.

Podcasting has been one of the most rewarding endeavors I've ever embarked on.

I was unsure at first, if I would want my own podcast...but I can tell you with certainty, if you're thinking about it, I believe you should 100% try it out and see if you like it.

To be clear, you can get your podcast setup in a few minutes.

However, it can take weeks (sometimes only hours) to get your podcast up on Apple Podcasts.

Here's the TikTok version if you prefer the whole thing in a 30 second video (with less detail):

@digitalpodcaster Here’s the easiest way for you to start a podcast. Now, this is a four step process. First, you’re gonna need to setup a podcast hosting account online. You can use a company like Buzzsprout or Captivate and create your account online, it cost less than $20 dollars and you’ll be up in a matter of minutes. Second, choose a topic your passionate about and keep the recording simple. This is super important because you want the episode to be easy to edit. Third, you’re gonna want to choose how you edit the episode. I would recommend getting started with a simple editor like Descript. Descript makes it easy to edit your episode especially if you don’t have editing skills. Lastly, you’re gonna upload your episode to your podcast hosting service that you signed up for in step 1. This will publish your podcast to Apple Podcasts and Spotify. Now, this is a four step process.

Each step builds on itself, and I’ll list out below the reasoning behind each step.

Setup your hosting account

First, you’re gonna need to setup a podcast hosting account online.

Your podcast host is different than you as a podcast host.

To put it simply, your podcast host is how your episode will be distributed to places like Apple Podcasts, Spotify and iHeartRadio.

You can use a company like Buzzsprout and create your account online.

You can sign up for free and it costs less than $20 dollars per month.

You can set up your account with Buzzsprout in a matter of minutes.

Pro tip: I suggest using Buzzsprout for a few reasons.

  • It’s easy to use.
  • It gives you accurate analytics to how your podcast is doing.
  • It has all the latest features you could need.

Next, choose a topic your passionate about and keep the recording simple.

This is super important because you want your episode to be easy to edit.

The longer or more complex your episodes are, the harder it will be to edit later on.

I've found most podcasters have grand visions of what they want their podcast to be...but get so overwhelmed that they never actually launch.

So, my advice is to start small and simple.

You can always add more topics and get more creative over time.

Next, choose how you edit the episode.

I would recommend getting started with a simple editor like Descript.

Descript is what I use to edit Digital Podcaster. It's user-friendly, affordable, and has all the tools you need to create a professional sounding episode.

Plus, you can use it right on your computer or even in your browser with their online editor.

Finally, upload your episode to your podcast hosting service.

Go to your web browser and log into podcast hosting account (from step one).

Follow the steps to upload your episode.

This will publish your podcast to Apple Podcasts and Spotify.

There you have it! You've now published your first podcast.

Easy, right?!

There are a few other things you might want to consider for your podcast.

These aren't vital to your podcast's success, but they can help you stand out from the crowd.

Upload a transcript of your episode along with your episode audio. You can export a transcript of your podcast using Descript. This helps your podcast become more discoverable through Google.

Create snippets of your podcast using Content Clips. This is the easiest and most effective way to leverage your content and grow your audience. You can use your Content Clips and promote your podcast on platforms like TikTok.

Find and book great guests for your podcast. This will help you easily build your network and also help grow your podcast.
